Influences in my artwork include American comic book and Japanese manga and anime, though the greatest influence continues to be my love affair with historic fashion and costume. More often than not, when looking for a reference, I find myself flipping through clothing history books rather than art books. I have a particular fascination with European historic fashion due to my days as a Renaissance faire costumer, but I also like to use less traditional sources such as the Philippenes, South America (Aztecs) and ancient Mongolia to keep the clothing styles interesting.
My handknitted items are usually one-of-a-kind accessories. I only sell items that I have designed myself or have received permission from the designer to sell. I like color--lots of it--and I try to push the boundaries of what colors people tend to think 'go' together. My current obsession seems to be in lime green and turquoise blue.
All handspun yarns are weighed and the yardage given is rounded down to account for error. I spin a wide variety of fibers with an emphasis on wool and silk. I am just starting to get into dyeing, though it's hard in my limited workspace! I also spin Sock Hop yarn for Crown Mountain Farms.
If you are interested in commissioning an illustration, knitted item, or yarn, please feel free to contact me at cg at divinebird dot com. Put the phrase "Custom Commission" in the subject line so I know you're not a bot. ;)
